“He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD” (Deut 8:3).
God brought His people into the wilderness where they lacked food. This taught them that they needed to depend on God’s word—that is, to obey His word in order to live. When you hear a sermon, seek to understand the passage a bit deeper, know what you should do about your life, and pray that God will speak to you.
