Today, people around the world celebrate Mother’s Day. I deeply admire mothers, for they play a vital role in the well being of the family. They often wear many hats—keeping the home in order, ensuring that everyone’s needs are met, and balancing countless responsibilities with grace. From daily household chores to preparing meals, from guiding their children academically to nurturing their emotional well being, mothers pour themselves into every detail of family life. They care tenderly for their children when sickness strikes and provide comfort in times of hardship. Mothers give sacrificially to their children, husbands and families. Truly, we can echo the words of Proverbs: “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” (Proverbs 31:28).”
I fondly remember my late mother for her sacrificial love and care for our family. I will always recall how she would prepare fresh bedsheets and step in as a mediator whenever we were scolded by my father. She often took on odd jobs to help supplement the household income. I am eternally grateful to my mother for raising five children while faithfully managing the household and meeting the needs of our family. The sacrificial love of a mother is truly priceless. She possesses the inner strength to go the extra mile, ensuring the comfort of her children and family. As Proverbs 31:25 declares: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” The wisdom of mothers is unmatched. She laboriously uses her wisdom to shape the character of her children, provides for them, and looks after the affairs of the family with grace and hard work. As recorded in Proverbs 31:26–27: “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” Mothers play a critical role in shaping the spiritual character of a child. As recorded in 2 Timothy 1:5: “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice.” We are grateful for mothers who read the Bible and pray during the formative years of a child, so that the child may come to know their Creator God and Savior Jesus Christ. Mothers and grandmothers often spend much time in prayer for their children and families. We are eternally grateful for their devotion and faithfulness, which leave a lasting impact on generations to come.
Let us rejoice and celebrate that our mothers have brought so much joy and happiness into our lives. Let us honour them, as the Bible says in Proverbs 31:30: “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” True beauty lies not in outward appearances but in the character and heart of a woman who fears the Lord. A mother who walks in faith and reverence for God is worthy of praise and admiration. Her strength and grace inspire those around her and leave a lasting legacy of faith for generations to come. As 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 reminds us: “4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” A mother’s love knows no bounds; it is patient, kind, and enduring. It is a love that sacrifices, forgives, and never fails. As we honour mothers on this special day, let us remember the incredible power of love to transform lives and bring hope to the world. On this Mother’s Day, let us give thanks for the precious gift of mothers and for the love they so freely give. May we cherish and honour them not only today but every day, recognising the profound impact they have on our lives and on the world around us. And may we always remember that behind every mother’s love is the guiding hand of our Heavenly Father, whose love knows no bounds and whose grace sustains us always. This message combines heartfelt appreciation for mothers with the timeless wisdom and comfort found in the Scriptures.
