I was born into a Christian family and grew up attending church and Sunday school. However, as I got older and life became busier, I gradually drifted away from church activities and stopped going regularly during primary school. Even so, I never stopped believing in God. Every night before I slept, I would pray without fail because deep down, I knew that there is a God who listens, who cares, and who watches over me.
Since young, I have known and accepted that Jesus died on the cross for our sins, and that one day we will all stand before the Lord. My aunt would often encourage us to attend church, but somehow, we never found the time to commit to it.
After many years, my aunt brought my family to Tree of Life Christian Church (TOLCC), and that’s where my journey of faith truly deepened. I began attending church weekly and joined the Basic Bible Class, which helped me gain a clearer and stronger understanding of what it means to live as a believer. Through those lessons, I learned not just about God, but to really know Him — and I started putting in effort to do Quiet Time.
Looking back, I can see that God has been so faithful throughout my life. Since I was young, I have experienced His protection and grace. There was a time when I fell very ill and was admitted to the ICU. My family was extremely worried, and many people around me prayed for my recovery—and God answered those prayers. I recovered fully, and to this day, that remains a powerful reminder of His love and healing.
I have also been blessed with supportive and caring people around me—from a loving family, to friends who look out for me, and to kind colleagues and mentors at work. My education journey has been smooth, from secondary school to polytechnic, to university, and now into my career. I was never the top student, nor was my performance the best, but I was able to enter a university and study a course that truly interested me.
During my university days, there were moments when I felt there was no hope of passing certain modules. But through encouragement, prayer, and perseverance, I made it through. Looking back, I know this was not purely because of my own effort, but also through God’s grace and answered prayers.
After graduation, it took me almost three months to secure a job. I was very stressed at first, but I continued to trust that God would provide. I often prayed for His guidance and for an opportunity to come soon. Eventually, I managed to secure a one-year contract role at a bank. Although I was unable to continue in the role after my contract ended due to a lack of headcount, I chose to trust in God’s plan for me.
At that time, I saw some of my friends applying for over 50 jobs without success, and I began to worry that I might face the same situation. But instead of letting fear take over, I continued to pray and submitted my applications faithfully. Many people around me also prayed for me during that period. By God’s grace once again, I managed to secure a full-time job in a short period of time.
These are just some of the many instances where I have experienced the goodness and faithfulness of God. People often say that I’m lucky, but I don’t see it as luck—I believe it’s truly by God’s grace. Most importantly, I thank God for my aunt, who never gave up on us all these years and continuously encouraged us to come back to church.
When I reflect on my life and my walk with God, I know that I am a sinner, I still fall short of God’s standards in my thoughts, words, and actions. But I also know that Jesus came to save sinners like me. To me, Jesus is my Saviour, my guide, and my strength. He gives me peace when I’m anxious, and hope when things don’t go according to plan. In every season, He reminds me that I am never alone. Through His words, I have learnt to rely on Him in both good times and bad, and to trust that His plans for me are always greater than my own.
Through every challenge and obstacle, I’ve learned to trust that God is in control. I do not have to rely on my own strength or worry about the future, because I know that He will guide me in His perfect timing. As Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
