Thankful for God’s Grace

I was born in a Christian family. At a young age, I learned about God through my parents and children Sunday school, and I accepted Jesus Christ as my Saviour. I remember feeling God’s love a lot as a kid. However, during my primary and secondary school years, I started falling away from God. Sundays felt like a burden, and I often slept during sermons and skipped fellowship meetings. I was not living spiritually and did not take God seriously. I feared God but didn’t bother to change. During my early secondary school years, I was struggling a lot socially. I didn’t really have friends in school. I also felt very distant from my family. I often felt very lonely in school and at home.

Towards the end of secondary 3, God blessed me with a few good friends. One friend, in particular,  was interested in becoming a Christian but wasn’t really sure yet. So, naturally, I would try and shift him closer to God. During this time frame of helping him, I saw myself getting closer to God too. Whenever I was troubled, the same friend would also lead me to Christ. It was also around this time when I saw my brother look towards God more seriously. I gradually witnessed his growth as a person and the improvements in his life. He became someone I looked up to, and it inspired me to do the same. From that point on, I felt God’s presence and love a lot more from my family and the friends He has given me. God’s goodness became much more attractive to me than sin. I saw church as a place of comfort and looked forward to Sunday worship too. Looking back, it feels like God was trying to pull me back to Him. And once I took Him seriously, I felt much happier. As I did when I was still a child, I have accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour.  And I’m willing, by God’s help, to turn away from sin.

I really thank God for the godly people with whom He surrounded me. They’ve helped me grow a lot as a person and as a Christian. My mum, especially, constantly guides my siblings and me back to God. I also thank God for giving me peace through difficult challenges and for always watching over me. I never want to live a life without God—how awful that would be.
