Pastoral Letters are weekly communications from our church pastor to the congregation.  They are mostly original reflections on the Word of God in response to church events or current affairs, local or beyond, with the primary intent to exhort Christians to live rightly before God in the real world.  Short bibliographies are sometimes featured towards the same end.

We pray that these writings will be a great blessing to you!

Church Family Day

It was good Christian fun at Church Family Day last Tuesday. Several things, I felt, are worth recalling. First, each fellowship group put up excellent skits to teach us important spiritual lessons. The Young People Fellowship was about how a boy who had a disinterested and careless attitude later changed...

The World and the Christian

Just some time ago, we counselled a young man. As a child, we knew him to be an obedient boy who seldom whined or disobeyed his parents’ instructions. He was, as a child and without overstating the case, a very well behaved boy for his age. Recently, he had changed....

Celebrating Parents’ Day

Today, the church remembers all fathers and mothers. We are what we are today because our parents made many sacrifices to provide for us: The food we ate and the clothes we wear did not come from the market or shops but because someone, your parents, used their hard earned...

Doing Secret Things

As the General Election nears, the rhetoric between contesting parties also escalates. In one instance, a cabinet minister argued that an opposition party should be “upfront about their political agenda and motives so that voters can make an informed choice.” He then alluded to a video clip posted on the...

Church Second Anniversary

A report says that a new born baby faces the greatest risk of mortality during birth and the first 28 days of life. Hence, Chinese celebrate when a baby is one month old. The same, I felt, can be said of the founding of Tree of Life Christian Church. We...

Many are excited about the coming election because it is likely that every Singaporean will get to cast a vote as every constituency will be contested. As candidates are introduced to the public, they are also scrutinized. One candidate has been criticized primarily for her young age—27 years old—and the...

The General Election is around the corner. Political parties are busy introducing their candidates and their past achievements. It is an important step before the election because how people perceive him, whether he is honest, people-minded and capable, will decide whether or not he wins the election. Suddenly, his past...

Freedom to Worship God

Several weeks ago, a Chinese newspaper reported that at a harbour in a neighbouring country, a cargo containing 5000 bibles in the Malay language was retained in the year 2009. The authorities continued to retain the bibles despite that the Prime Minister of that country ordered them to be released....

Using Your Life Wisely

The tsunami that struck Japan, Sendai, killed thousands. Many were swept away by the tsunami. One such family among several, however, managed to escape. The wife recalled her husband shouting from outside: “Get out of here now!” She gathered her children—aged two to six—and fled in her car to higher...
