God Will Supply Our Needs

Singapore will enter a recession this year because of the blow from the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in job losses and lower wages. There will be “significant uncertainty” over how long and intense the downturn will be. This warning comes from the central bank warned on Tuesday (Apr 28). The recession will lead to job losses and lower wages. The prospect of losing our jobs and a wage cut is indeed a concern. Our LORD Jesus Christ taught us that we should not be unduly worried in Matt 6:25-34:

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Our Almighty God and our Heavenly Father knows what you need to sustain your life. He feeds the birds though they do not sow or reap to store food in the barns. The flowers of the field are clothed more beautifully than the cloths of the most powerful and richest king, King Solomon. Are we not more precious than the birds and flowers of the field in God’s sight?

During this time, God requires us to have faith to believe our God will take care of us and meet our basic needs. God wants us to seek His kingdom first and His righteousness. We need to continue to worship God, attend Sunday School, fellowship and prayer meeting during this time. Let us read God’s Word daily and pray often for our own needs and the needs of others. Even when times are bad, work hard and keep away from sins and temptations. We should also keep in contact with those around us especially in the same household of faith. Let us use this time to care for our family and our church family.

Should we be affected by the recession, let us persevere to search and look for another job. Trust God to provide you with a job. Our pay may be cut but let us learn to be prudent in our spending. Use this time to take stock and explore ways that we could save and lower our costs of living. We can start by eliminating waste and spend wisely.

During this time with various CoViD-19 measures taken worldwide, travelling is restricted. It helps us to take stock of what we have, to refrain from excessive spending. With the family spending so much time together, we learn or re-learn how we might spend time together without getting on each other’s nerves. More importantly, let us learn to love our family more. Perhaps, this is God’s way of providing us a break from the doldrums of life. Let us take time to love God, and trust that He is also preparing us for the economy downturn.

Let us live day by day trusting God and our Heavenly Father to meet our daily needs and provision. Will He not provide for us, as He did with the millions of Israelites daily with manner and quail for forty years without fail. Exodus 16:34-35: “As the Lord commanded Moses, Aaron put the manna with the tablets of the covenant law, so that it might be preserved. The Israelites ate manna forty years, until they came to a land that was settled; they ate manna until they reached the border of Canaan.”

During this prolonged economy downturn, let us take heart to know our God is able and more than willing to see each of us through this recession unscathed. What God requires of us is to have faith to believe that our God can and will provide. God wants us to seek God first and live a righteous life. When we do that, be assured that God will provide all that you need.
