published that on Nov 11, the light-up of Christmas On a Great Street will see Orchard Road transformed into an enthralling world of light reflective tunnels and a magical forest of trees dripping with lights. The light-up of Orchard Road will usher in the Christmas festive season. I have always enjoyed immersing myself in the dazzling lights of Christmas when walking or driving past Orchard Road.
As much as the lights in Orchard bring joy to the visitors, there is a light that shone some two thousand years ago, which would bring lasting joy and peace to the world.
Matthew 2:1-2: After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
Matthew 2:9-11: After they had seen the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Luke 2:8-14: And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David, a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
It is on Christmas Day that we remember the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ died on the cross of Calvary in atonement for our sins. God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to be Saviour of this often cold and cruel world. By believing in Jesus Christ, we can have forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. Only when our sins are dealt with, then can we have lasting peace and joy. In Jesus Christ we can then have our sins forgiven forever.
May I urge you, if you have not received Jesus Christ to be your Saviour, to do so today. This is the promise from God to you in John 3:16:
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Make no delay. Come and put your faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Let Him be your Saviour so that you will receive the lasting peace and joy that only Jesus Christ can give.
