Do Not Miss Church Camp!

Since late last year, we have been making announcements about our biennial church camp which will be held on the 19th to 22nd of June.  After waiting for nearly two years, we are just two months away from the much anticipated church camp!

Having attended all our previous church camps, I must say that I have benefitted much from all of them.  Church camp has been an indispensable part of church life to me.  In a normal week, we only get to meet up with our fellow brethren once or twice.  There is very limited time for in depth fellowship before we have to part our ways and be busy with our own things again.  It is only in church camp that we get to spend a few days together.  During these few days, because everyone is more relaxed and where time is ample, our fellowship and sharing will be very different from usual.  In addition, most of the programmes or team building games that are planned during the church camp are all aimed at better facilitating interaction amongst the campers, and helping us to know each other better.

Of course, a church camp would not be a church camp if there is no preaching of God’s Word.  In fact, camp speakers will make full use of a few sessions to expound God’s Word in a systematic fashion based on a given central theme.  Hence, in comparison to the usual Sunday sermons where speakers are unable to go any deeper into the bible passage due to time constraint, church camp sermons can be likened as a sumptuous spiritual feast that is truly satisfying!  There will be post-sermon group discussion to help us better digest our spiritual intake and further enrich our understanding of God’s Word.

Church camp is also a place where we can experience real rest in the Lord.  We get to retreat from our busy routine and to draw close to our Lord.  As in the Mark 6:30-31, Jesus invited His disciples to a time of rest with Him after they have worked very hard for the sake of gospel: “The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.  Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’”  By coming to church camp, we are like the disciples who accepted Jesus’ invitation to have rest in Him.   From here, we get refreshed and recharged to continue to live for our Lord.

The coming church camp will be held in a holiday resort located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.  With its quiet surrounding, it’s a great place to take a break, away from the hustle and bustle of life, and to focus on God’s Word, draw close to Him and enjoy such rest with fellow brethren.  The resort is also equipped with leisure facilities suitable for families.  I believe that both young and old will have an enjoyable time here.  In addition, the close proximity of the resort to Singapore means that we do not need to be worry about a tiring journey.  As for the programmes, we will have something interesting and fun from our youths together with their mentors.  I believe we will all like them.

What are you still waiting for?  Registration for the church camp is already open.  Please register soon!  Otherwise, you will need to wait for another two years for the next church camp.
