The First Thing Andrew Did

John the Baptist preached, saying, “Look, the Lamb of God” (John 1:36). From this, Andrew knew who the Saviour was. “The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus’” (John 1:45). Philip and Nathanael were friends. “Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law . . . Jesus of Nazareth’” (John 1:45).

When Peter preached the gospel to Cornelius, an army officer, Cornelius did not meet Peter alone. Acts 10:33 says, “So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us” (Acts 10:33): Cornelius gathered his family to hear Peter preach the gospel to them.

The above incidents teach us that after we know Jesus, we must bring our family members and friends to Jesus. Who in your family are still not Christians? The people closest to us are our father and mother, our sisters and brothers, our grandparents. Are they safe from hell and are secured of a place in heaven? What about your aunties and uncles, and your cousins—are they saved? Is your best friend forever safe from the eternal torment of hell?

Dear Christian, surely your heart is troubled when you know that people you love are in danger of perishing eternally in hell. If you are not troubled, and are not doing anything to save their souls, I can say with certainty that you do not love them. It does not bother you if they suffer in hell. But I believe you tried to give them Jesus. Perhaps they rejected you many times. You are discouraged—naturally. They will reject you again. But dear Christian, let us not give up on them because the consequences are great—in this life they will have no real peace and in the next life they will suffer eternal torment in hell. Give them Jesus.

Christmas gospel Sunday is scheduled for 19 December 2021. We will have two services: Chinese worship at 11am; English worship at 2pm. This will remove the need for translation which new friends might find distractive. The second service is set at 2pm to give us enough time to take lunch and bring friends from the MRT to church. We urge everyone to attend BOTH services. If the attendance is low, what will new friends think? The whole setting will look so pitiful. Their hearts to hear the gospel will be disheartened by the low attendance. We are serving God. Please attend the Chinese worship AND the English worship. Come and support. You are serving your Lord Jesus Christ.

I will preach a gospel message, “Jesus Saves.” Please pray for me, as Paul says, “Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel” (Eph 6:19-20). A 10-persons choir will present the song, “O Holy Night.” They will sing in four parts in harmony. Daniel Seet will share his testimony of salvation. Please pray for them.

Above all, invite your friends and relatives to come and hear the gospel. You must pray because Satan will work hard to hinder souls from being saved. Your friends need Jesus. No matter how happy they seem, they are living in sin and darkness. There is no real peace in them. How can they have peace when they do not know where they are going after they die?! Jesus is the only answer to their life problems and worries. May the Lord give you a heart that love souls and give you courage to invite your non-Christian friends to the gospel Sunday on 19 December 2021 at 11am (Chinese) and 2pm (English). Please attend both services at 11am and 2pm.
