Salvation of Loved Ones

Preacher Yap Lay Choo is a missionary to Cypress and she pastors a church there. God has used her in many ways and she has led many, especially mainland Chinese who work there, to Christ. Just recently, she wrote to us:

“Dear Pastor Tan, Committee Members of Tree of Life Christian Church, brothers and sisters in the Lord. May you have peace on the Lord’s Day! Please pray for the salvation of my elder sister Yap Lay Lay. Tomorrow, my younger sister (Yap Lay Peng) will urge my elder sister to go to church. May the Lord move the heart of my sister (she once prayed to receive Christ but yet sometimes still prayed to idols) to completely understand that the Lord loves her and submit herself to the Lord. When I called my mother today to ask her about to how to cook a particular kind of soup, I suddenly recalled that just a few days ago I dreamt that elder sister died. I told Mother. Mother asked me if I had told my elder sister about this dream. The reason for asking was that just a few days ago, my elder sister told my mother that she (elder sister) dreamt that she walked into hell. Upon hearing this, I called my elder sister and she told me when she had this dream. I realised that it was about the same time that I had this dream too. Elder Sister told me that in her dream, hell was very dark and there were numerous idols and temples there.

As for me, I dreamt that my family members told me that elder Sister had died. I then returned home. Elder Sister said to me: ‘Lay Choo, I am going away.’ I cried. I just felt strange as to why my sister and I had similar dreams at about the same time (I think it was on the same night). Hence, I told Mother to believe in Jesus. Mother replied: ‘Yes.’ I told her that in heaven, we will never be separated again. I also called my younger sister to urge my elder sister to go to church.”

I am not saying that these dreams are a direct revelation from God. All that we need to know as to how to live a victorious life here is fully revealed in the Bible (2 Tim 3:16-17). No additional divine instruction is necessary. Dreams could simply be an outflow of what is going on in our minds which includes our worries and thoughts. This could be the case for Lay Choo and her sister. It is, however, possible, considering that the timing of their dreams coincide, that God is being merciful to Lay Choo’s elder sister by warning her to flee from idolatry and sincerely receive Jesus as Saviour and Lord (e.g. Gen 31:24; Matt 2:12).

Dear all, it does not matter whether the dreams were indeed a warning from God. What is important is that we must be reminded of what God’s Word tells us: “Just as man is destined to die once and after that to face judgment” (Heb 9:27): After you die, you will stand before the Holy God to be judged for every sin you committed when you were alive on earth. If your sins are not totally washed away and forgiven by God, you will be punished and will perish in hell for eternity. There will not be another chance for you to be saved from hell.

The Bible has never been wrong. It has proven itself to be amazingly accurate in all matters including science, medicine, history, and more importantly, in spiritual things. You cannot and must not ignore the warning from God’s Word the Bible. There is a heaven and a hell. Jesus says very clearly: “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). Jesus died on the cross as a punishment for the sins you committed. Hence, by receiving Him as Lord and Saviour, all your sins will be forgiven and washed away forever. You will receive eternal life from the day you believe in Him and heaven when you pass away from this world. Dear Christian, you must work hard to bring your loved ones to Jesus. If you love them, pray and invite them for the coming gospel rally on 2/9/11. Jesus can save them.
