Resolve To Walk Close to God In The New Year

It was heart-warming to hear many testimonies during our watch night service on how God has seen many of us through last year. By God’s grace and faithfulness, many have become stronger in overcoming great challenges and difficulties in life. As we begin a new year, I am sure there will be new challenges and hurdles to overcome. Let us be reminded and take heart that our God is faithful. As God has seen us through last year unscathed, God will definitely see us through this year.

Our God is faithful. Our friends may fail us, but God will never fail us. In response, what God requires of us is our faithfulness towards God. We are reminded of God’s faithfulness in <Lamentations> 3:22-23, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

As we start the new year, let us resolve in our heart to follow and serve our God wholeheartedly. May we follow Joshua with this resolution as recorded for us in Joshua 24:15 “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Let us resolve in our heart to exercise our Christian discipline. Read your bible daily, pray often for your needs and the needs of others and attend Sunday worship weekly. Resolve in your heart to complete reading the whole bible at least once and allowing God’s word to shape your character and life. Let us resolve in our heart to exercise our Christian discipline. Read your bible daily, pray often for your needs and the needs of others and attend Sunday worship weekly. Resolve in your heart to complete reading the whole bible at least once and allowing God’s word to shape your character and life. Resolve in your heart to live a Godly life. Shun all forms of evil and do not allow sin to creep into your life. Resolve in your heart not to sin against God and have no un-confessed sins in your heart. Resolve in your heart to have faith in God’s word, claim upon God’s promises and have a humble and teachable heart. Allow God to speak to your heart, develop good and Godly habits and allow God to make changes in your life and build a Godly character.

Our church has provided four resolutions for this year. The four resolutions are as follows:

  1. Read the bible once through in 1 or 2 years;
  2. Attend Sunday Worship Service weekly;
  3. Read the bible and pray daily (Quiet Time); and,
  4. Memorise 24 passages of church scripture memory.

There will be opportunities to witness and serve God in the new year. Resolve in your heart to pray for the salvation of your loved ones. Make time and effort to establish relationships. Be sensitive and offer your help in moments of need. Go the extra mile to help your friends and loved ones in times of need.

Resolve in your heart to be exemplary. Show graciousness, kindness and compassion when dealing with people. God has placed us where we are, in our areas of school, work and neighbours, for a purpose. Resolve in your heart to seize every opportunity as it arises to testify for God and your faith. Be bold and courageous to invite to gospel meets, share the gospel, and share your faith.

Resolve in your heart to be faithful in your giving. God is no debtor, so have faith in your giving, that as we give abundantly, so will God honour us. “Honour the Lord with your wealth with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.,” so says Proverbs 3:9-10.

Resolve in your heart to make our new friends and visitors feel at home in our church. There will be opportunities to fellowship with new friends in our church. Step out of your comfort zone and reach out to our friends so that they can feel welcome and be able to settle in our church.

In resolving to walk close to God, God can use as a channel of blessings to people close and dear to our hearts. There will be great opportunities to wins souls and glorify God. God promises He will greatly bless us and see us through this year when we resolve in our hearts to walk close and follow God wholeheartedly. Have a wonderful and blessed new year!
