Quiet Time

Those who have tried to teach a child how to do something might have experienced this. Before you have finished what you want to tell him, he tells you: “I know! I know!” When he, however, performs that task, he is unable to do what you want. The problem was that he could not keep quiet to listen. If only he had kept quiet for several minutes and listened attentively, he would have done well and not made unnecessary mistakes.

God’s Word is Wisdom

In the same way, it is important that we keep quiet to listen to God so that we may know how to walk life’s journey. We listen to the news for information. We read books to improve on our work. But what and whom we listen to are but written and spoken by human beings who often make mistakes. Only what is spoken by God is totally reliable. God who alone is all wise, He alone can guide us in the way that is all safe and good. Thus God’s Word promises us that: “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of His saints. (Pro 2:6-8).“

Church Objectives for 2011

We shall, as a church, this year work on our individual Quiet Time. This is a time when we read the Bible which is the Word of God. God will speak words that will bring us good life through the Bible. After hearing what God says to us, we will then pray to Him and ask Him for strength to obey. In addition, we can also pray for our own needs and for others. Pray for the salvation of the people you love that God will help them to believe in Jesus. Pray for the church pastor that he may have strength to preach and serve the church. Pray for other brothers and sisters in God’s family. This time of reading God’s Word and prayer is called Quiet Time.

All you need is 15 minutes. For instance, you can spend 10 minutes reading and the next 5 minutes praying. If you do this faithfully every day, you can be sure your life will change. You will be more peaceful at heart, wiser in making decisions and stronger in facing life’s trials. This is true. Not a few have told me how their lives have changed after keeping their Quiet Time.

Your teachers in the Sunday Schools and the committee of your fellowship group will also help to encourage one and all to keep your Quiet Time. Let us also as brothers and sisters in the Lord encourage each other by sharing our Quiet Time.

At the same time, we will continue to work hard to bring lost souls to the Lord. I thank God for you as a church because you have put in good effort in the year 2010 in praying, caring and inviting people to various outings and meetings. I thank God also for those who faithfully serve in various capacities. In fact, simply by faithfully attending worship service, you have been an encouragement and have been instrumental in bringing souls to Christ. Well done and keep it up. May this new year be another year when the Lord adds His grace, mercy and blessings to Tree of Life Christian Church and to each of you. Blessed New Year.
