Prelude to the Move

At the end of last year, we started to dive deep into discussions about how the church could better start the gospel outreach. After much prayer and many discussions, and brothers and sisters unanimously decided to move the church to somewhere we could be more efficient in doing gospel outreach. This was not an easy decision. Everyone could have been complacent with the status quo and remained in Bukit Batok. For the sake of prospering the gospel, however, brothers and sisters were willing to leave their comfort zone and make sacrifices for the Lord’s work. Since February, when the church started raising funds, brothers and sisters had been generous in giving and lending interest-free loans to the church.

The like-mindedness of brothers and sisters is proof that the Lord is with us. “Because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:5-6). Although the work before us seems arduous, but when I think about how God has made us like-minded in this matter, I immediately felt revitalized because He will give us what we need to complete this move and to better evangelise at the new location. Indeed, the Lord has led us step by step. At every juncture, we always look to God to pave the way for us: the Lord gave us suitable accountants and lawyers to provide us with legal advice such that the church was able to make the most appropriate arrangements. The Lord prepared someone to purchase our 07-07 unit. This enabled us to quickly raise funds in the search for new units. And the Lord provided us with two affordable units in Admiralty. The Lord led us to several renovation contractors who gave receive quotations that are within our budget. We must continue to pray and rely on God to pave the way ahead  for us. At the same time, work together in unity to complete our work laid before us. Please keep in your prayers the renovation of the Admiralty units. Please pray that God moves the workers and representatives of the renovation firms to do the job well and responsibly to create a wonderful space for us to worship and learn. Pray also for the sale of our unit 07-03, that God would prepare for us a buyer who would offer us a good price.

Today, we shall make the final preparations for the selling of unit 07-07. It is also our prelude to the move: moving everything from 07-07 to 07-03. Thank God that the buyer of 07-07 allowed us the use of one room to store our things for the moment. This has somewhat eased us of the pressure from lack of space. As brothers and sisters together pack up the things in 07-07, let us continue to keep unity, be humble to each other, and rejoice in serving the Lord together.

From next Sunday onwards, we will temporarily not have the comfort of space to fellowship and attend classes. The place will become more crowded. We will revert to combined service. Simply said, we will revert to the service and Sunday school arrangements that we adopted four years ago. This time, however, there will be more people and more things. We foresee that this situation would last for about two months until we move to the new location. The church committee will try to reduce inconvenience in all aspects, but it may still be a bit more crowded and noisier during service and Sunday School. Please be more patient and tolerant. During this period, please continue to participate in all of church’s activities as usual. The committee also welcomes any suggestions that you might like to raise to improve on the current situation for service and Sunday School.

The church’s move has gradually changed from an idea to a reality. Before leaving unit 07-07, I thank God for preparing such a wonderful place for us for these past 4 years. It has allowed adults and children alike to learn together. On the other hand, I am also looking forward to the new place to which God would be leading us! “Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped” (Num 9:17). We are getting ready to set off now! Pack up your things. Ensure that no one is left behind. Follow God’s guidance to where He has prepared for us.
