As we celebrate our 49th year of nation building, there are many things we can thank God for. We thank God for an effective and efficient government. We thank God for our leaders who have shaped strategies in areas ranging from economy to foreign policy, housing and culture. These have transformed our nation to what we are today. A nation that boasts of a clean and green garden city, a clean water supply, world class sea and air ports, shopping and dining paradise, excellent health and education, transport and trading system, a solid defence and a world class leaders and workers.
We thank God for our past leaders and the pioneers who have helped the leaders to build our nation. Through their struggles and sacrifices, they have transformed our nation from rags to riches.
We thank God above all else for the peace and safety of this land. We are spared from natural disasters and wars. We thank God for blessing our nation with good leaders and government.
We are exhorted in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. “
We must not take our success, peace, prosperity and safety for granted. We must uphold our government and those in authority in prayer. There are internal or external issues and challenges that can easily disrupt or destroy our nation. We need to constantly pray for our leaders that they will be God fearing, that they will have wisdom to handle these issues, govern our nation with prudence, integrity, and upholding the moral standards of our Almighty Creator God.
As much as God has given us peace and prosperity, let us also seize the opportunity to do God’s work. Be it in building the lives and strengthening the faith of His redeemed or be it in the pulsating work of evangelism.
In a couple of weeks’ time, we will have our church annual Gospel meet. We thank God for starting the church choir on the right track. We thank God that many have started to pray and have in mind whom they want to invite for the gospel meet. Our desire is that the sanctuary be filled with visitors and friends. By the sound preaching of the gospel, may many of our unsaved loved ones and friends come to the saving knowledge of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.
We thank God that our various cell groups and the youth fellowship have set off with a good start. Let us continue the momentum of sustaining and growing these cell groups and fellowship. Let us continue to pray and support our church leaders that likewise, the leaders can be God fearing and God can use these leaders and church in a mighty way for building the lives of His redeemed and for the work of evangelism till His soon glorious return!
