Let Your Light Shine Before Others

At the time of writing this article, it is published that on Oct 5th thousands of students across the United States would be encouraged to bring their Bibles to school to talk to their friends about Jesus Christ.

This is all part of a student-led “Bring Your Bible To School Day.”  The students are encouraged to “Bring IT, Share IT and Live IT.”

We thank God for the boldness and courage of these students to share their faith and the Bible.  We thank God for the USA government and authorities in supporting this initiative.  Should this be allowed to continue, we will see a change for the better for the whole country of United States.

I was told the gospel when my teacher at a secondary school started a Bible class after school.  It was through this class that I came to know the God of the Bible, and to receive Jesus as my Lord and Saviour.  I continued with spending my college years in a mission school.  We sang hymns and heard God’s Word, and read the Bible during our morning chapel.

For this year’s gospel rally, I invited a college classmate.  To my surprise, he told me that he had already trusted Jesus as his Saviour.

I thus firmly believe that it was the Word of God and various testimonies of Christians in school which impressed upon him (and me) the Christian faith.  It was in God’s perfect will and timing that he came to accept Jesus as his Saviour at a late age.

Jesus exhorts us to be the salt and light of the world in Matt 5:13-16:

You are the salt of the earth.  But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

You are the light of the world.  A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Our Lord expects that we should let our light shine through our good deeds.  Let us seize every opportunity to do good to others.

Let us learn to be kind, gracious and always ready to lend a helping hand to people around us.  The end result is not to glorify ourselves but to glorify our Father in heaven.

We thank God for a successful gospel rally this year.  We will continue to hold our annual gospel rally.  In the meantime, let us spend the time until the next gospel rally to build bridges and be on the look-out for our unsaved friends, relatives and family.  Let us be always ready to let our light shine so that by our good deeds, they too may come to salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ.
