Homosexuality

The Lord Jesus loves every person in the world fervently.  He proved His sincere love by dying for us all: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).  Just as the Lord loves us unconditionally, we are also to love fellow Christians,  our neighbours, colleagues, and even people who treat us with evil.  We love others because the Lord first loved us.  That includes sinners and homosexuals.  We have a responsibility towards God to love them from our hearts.  Our Lord Jesus also loves them and died for homosexuals.  We must do likewise—love them.

We love them but we cannot approve of their sinful lifestyle.  The bible clearly condemns the acts of homosexuality and lesbianism (Rom 1:26-27; Lev 20:13):

Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.  In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

What was clearly immoral in the past, sex between the same sex and same sex marriage are today, unfortunately, in some parts of the world approved.  They confuse morality with human rights.  Every human being is to be loved and respected.  But that does not mean every human being can do as he or she wishes when what is done goes against morality, and the laws of God.  You have your rights as a human being.  That does not mean, however, you can have sex with a minor in Singapore even if sex is consensual, that is, both parties agree to it.  Human rights must operate within morality or God’s holy laws.

A researcher, Dr Neil Whitehead, with the New Zealand government makes an astute observation in an article:

Identical twins have the same genes or DNA. They are nurtured in equal prenatal conditions.  If homosexuality is caused by genetics or prenatal conditions and one twin is gay, the co-twin should also be gay.  “Because they have identical DNA, it ought to be 100%,” Dr. Whitehead notes. But the studies reveal something else. “If an identical twin has same-sex attraction the chances the co-twin has it are only about 11% for men and 14% for women.”  Because identical twins are always genetically identical, homosexuality cannot be genetically dictated. “No-one is born gay,” he notes. “The predominant things that create homosexuality in one identical twin and not in the other have to be post-birth factors.”

The bible clearly instructs us that marriage is between a man and a woman (Gen 2:24; Matt 19:5).  As the world changes to fit the corrupt morals of the world, let us do two things.  First, love the world, even homosexuals, with the sincere and fervent love of Jesus Christ.

At the same time, bravely and yet gently and lovingly, make clear the bible’s stand: we cannot approve of the sinful lifestyle of homosexuality and lesbianism.  Let us be the light and salt of the world, that the world may live according to God’s holy laws.  Then our country and people around us may be blessed by God.
