“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever, with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.”
Many years ago, my wife and I visited the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Yellowstone National Park is known for its geysers. There is a particular geyser named “Old Faithful.” The reason for its name is because at a regular intervals, the geyser will erupt with boiling water that will be spouted up towards the high sky.
In the same way, I thank God that we have a faithful God. God causes the sun to rise every morning and set every evening to show His faithfulness towards us. I thank God for His faithfulness in seeing the church and my family through 2017. As I reflect on how God has seen us through 2017, I cannot help but echo what the psalmist says, “I will sing of the LORD’s love forever and I will make known His faithfulness through all generations.”
As we start the New Year, I am sure there will be challenges which we will face. For some, it could be studying in a new school environment with new teachers and friends. For others, it could be a new job assignment. Yet for some others, it could be a new skill to master at work. For some, it could be facing health and financial challenges.
Let us take heart that our God is a faithful God. He did not fail us in 2017, and I am confident that God will see us through 2018 too. Let us persevere to be found faithful in the things that God has entrusted us to be doing, especially in our service for God in the church, whether it be teaching in Sunday school, attending Sunday worship, attending fellowship and prayer meeting.
Let us also be found faithful in keeping our daily bible and prayer time. Let us exercise discipline in keeping our daily bible time, and being vigilant in guarding our hearts and minds against things that will lead us astray and cause us to sin against God.
Let us endeavour to continue being the salt and light of the world. Let us be found faithful in our walk with God. May our lives be a living testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness towards us.
Let us set priorities in our life to put God first in all things that we do. May God have always the first priority and our first love in our lives.
Can we, at the end of 2018, testify again that God’s love, mercy and faithfulness endures forever? May I wish all a blessed, joyful, peaceful, fruitful and successful year for the LORD in year 2018.
