There is, however, a condition that you must satisfy. The prophet adds that, “I say to myself, ‘The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.’ The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:24-26). That is, you must resolve to want to obey him not for any reason but simply to please Him. That is the meaning of “the one who seeks Him.”
Do several things if you are serious about pleasing Him. First, resolve not to do anything that will displease Him even if it offers you some huge benefits. Ask God to help you live a holy life.
Second, do not miss Sunday Worship Service. You come not only because you are serving that Sunday. You come because you know you ought to worship your Lord on Sundays, and because you want to praise and thank Him for saving you out of eternal condemnation in hell. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25).
Third, if you love Him and find Him most lovely, how can you not meet up with Him daily? Keep your Quiet Time. That is, spend 15 minutes to read the Bible so that your Saviour can speak words of life to you. Then pray for yourself and others. You will then obtain strength for the day.
Fourth, share the gospel with a person once a month. We will refresh your skills and memory in using “The Four Spiritual Laws.” Use it, master it, and God can use you to bring someone into God’s Kingdom. You would have done work that lasts eternity!
Fifth, I am planning to teach a book from the Bible during Tuesday prayer meetings. It will be a 30 minute lecture cum exhortation. Then we will continue our usual routine of praying. Please come. Be energised. But the main purpose is to pray. Prayer is one of the greatest privileges given to Christians: “Until now you have not asked for anything in My Name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” (John 16:24).
May you obey God by seeking His face: live a holy life, attend Sunday Worship service faithfully, keep your Quiet Time, share the gospel, and pray. Then, surely, God’s mercy will start, sustain, and energise your life in the new year of 2017. May you have a grace and mercy filled new year.
