This shows one thing: as Einstein the brilliant scientist once said, “God does not play dice with the universe”: nothing in the world happens by chance. This universe is an orderly one. Someone designed it. If you see a pile of books stacked up orderly, you would say, “Someone stacked up the books.” In the same way, if you see an orderly universe, you must conclude likewise: “Someone created this orderly universe.” Thus, Rom 1:20 says, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature—haver been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” But God did not only create the entire universe, including human beings, He continues to take care of the universe and us, especially His children:
16 For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. (Col. 1:16-17)
After the Almighty God, the Lord Jesus Christ, has created the universe, He also ensures “all things hold together” by His almighty power. This same Lord who holds the universe together is also our Saviour. As He takes care of the entire universe, He also takes care of us. In fact, Jesus says that “even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Matt 10:30). Thus, the eclipse of the sun that took place precisely as scientists calculated and predicted tells us something about God: God created this universe and He is taking care of all its daily operation. Above all, He is also taking care of you and me, His precious children. Thus, do not worry about what’s going to happen tomorrow or about anything. Do your best to prepare in a practical way for tomorrow. Once you have done your part, God will do His in taking care of you.
But what is most important is not what you should do to take care of your own needs. What you should do, above all things, is this: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matt 6:33). When you first take care of God’s concerns, God will take care of yours. In other words, do not be self-centred, being always concerned about three persons in your life: “I,” “me,” and “mine.” The questions you should ask are: “What things in God’s house are neglected?”; “What can I do for God’s house and His people?” Have you ever been worried about God’s things? Or is the only thing you worry about is your own well-being? Jesus, the Promise-Keeper, promises you that if you go all out to care for His house and people, He will go all out to care for you. Thus, even if you overlooked certain things in your planning, and sacrifice your well-being for His house and people, you really do not need to worry: He who cares for you “will neither slumber nor sleep” (Psalm 121:3), and cares for you 24/7.
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (Matt 6:34). What you should do is “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matt 6:33).
