Sadly, many residents are non-Christians who do not know the true gospel of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ. Jesus once said in Matthew 9:35-38:
And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
As we look at the multitudes of non-believing residents, may it also move our hearts with compassion and desire to reach out to them with the gospel truth. Indeed the harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Jesus exhorts us to pray earnestly to the LORD of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.
There are a few things we can do to enlarge our gospel tent. First , we can pray earnestly as our LORD commands that God will raise and send out labourers into the harvest field. Will you be such a one to pray earnestly?
Second, God has given us a command in Matthew 28:19-20:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Our LORD Jesus Christ has made it clear that sharing the gospel is not an option but a command. We have an obligation and a duty to share the gospel. Without the true gospel, many will perish for all eternity in hell.
Lastly, may we be like the Apostle Paul who wrote these verses to the church in Rome, “I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish. That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.”
We were once lost sinners who have now been gloriously saved by grace and through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. May we feel obligated to preach the gospel. May God instill compassion in our hearts for the lost, to heed His command to preach the gospel. We owe a debt and may we be obligated to go and share the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Soon, we will be celebrating Christmas. We have dedicated Christmas Sunday as an evangelistic worship. May I urge you to pray and consider bringing a friend, colleague or family member to come for the Christmas Sunday worship. At the same time, our church will be bringing the Christmas message to homes with Christmas carols and an evangelistic message. May I urge you, likewise, to pray and be willing to be part of our church gospel outreach to open your home and invite your family and friends to this year’s Christmas carol outreach. As the hymn goes, “May I not go and empty-handed . . .” when we meet God and our Lord Jesus Christ face to face. Our Lord Jesus shared the gospel with the gentiles in the last leg of His ministry on earth. May we be earnest in praying and sharing the glorious gospel message with one and all.
