Some Thoughts on Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (Heb 10:24-25).
Why is it so critical to care for one another? This passage was written to those who were facing persecution. In fact, they were about to leave the Lord. At this, the apostle wrote to arrest the crisis. He exhorts: “Stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together.” We live in a world where we are being threatened continually. These threats come from the pressure of the working life, our daily needs, our physical needs, the world and temptations that come from sin. If the heart is captivated by sin and the world, it will grow cold and hard, and we will become lukewarm towards God. We will never lose our salvation but we will gradually but surely lose the likeness of a child of light and resemble more and more a child of darkness and then live in darkness. Not only will such a person not experience joy and peace in this life, when the Lord returns to judge us, we will be rebuked and disciplined by the Lord. A life lived in bondage to sin is a slippery road. The deeper you go, the more difficult it is to pull yourself out of sin. What can we do to protect ourselves against sin?
Care for One Another (Hebrews 10:24)
We must care one for another. Do you know what is happening in the lives of the people in your fellowship? Do you know their worries and burdens? Besides saying hello to one another, let us fellowship with one another over the phone, emails, or meals. Let us help each other in practical ways and pray for each other. Let us deepen the depth of our conversation. I would like to suggest an objective you can set for yourself: Every week, spend some personal moments with someone from church. You can also consider visiting him. You will be surprised how effective such personal times are: Some were pulled out of sin and worries by such care. Are you willing to be used by the Lord? You can if you are willing to share your love. Then the Lord can use you and you will be a fountain of life.
Stir Up One Another to Love and Good Works (Heb 10:24)
Besides carrying one another’s burdens, let us talk about the Lord’s business, discussing how we can improve the gospel work and bring people to the Lord. When we meet, we should not become lazy and not love the Lord. I thank God that many faithfully attend fellowships, whether it is the Evergreen, Adult or Young People Fellowship(s). I hope also that each committee will think about how we help each other to bring our loved ones and colleagues to the Lord.
The Lord’s Day of judgment and reward is near. What is His yardstick? The Lord once said: “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matt 25:40). We will be praised and rewarded when we love each other, especially when we love an unlovely person.
