I am sure there will be various moments in our life when we lack something – be it as a new Christian, when we fall sick or when there are special needs in our family. One of the ways that we can minister and meet the diverse needs of our church is through the Care and Visitation Ministry.
The Care and Visitation Ministry was set up this year. The work of caring and visiting one another is not new in our church. However, this ministry is necessary so that we can be more effective in the care of as many church members and friends as possible.
The Care and Visitation Ministry has chosen Matthew 25:31-40 for motivation. Our reward would ultimately be from God our Heavenly Father.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
The Care and Visitation ministry initially comprises ten members. We have divided our ministry into two teams. There is a mix of experience and a good balance of English and Chinese speaking members within the teams. For a start, we will be visiting new believers on a monthly basis. We will also visit the sick and those who may be suffering from bereavement, on an ad-hoc and need basis. I am encouraged that members outside our Care and Visitation Ministry have expressed their interest to go visitation with the team. May we continue to love and care for each other in practical ways. Our heavenly Father recognizes each and every caring and kind deed shown towards His redeemed.
