When we ask – which is a role that many will vote for as the greatest role among mankind, a majority of us would immediately proclaim that it is Mother. These extraordinary women in our lives loved us unconditionally. They also nurtured and guided us. In so doing, they have also shaped our lives and that of the world around us.

Proverbs 31:26-28 speaks of that invaluable role which Mothers play, “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” The significance of the role of Mother reminds us of the profound love and sacrifice exemplified by mothers everywhere, which mirrors the love that our Heavenly Father has for us.

Mothers possess wisdom and strength. She is the caretaker of our home. She shapes the lives of their children and brings blessings to their families.

Isaiah describes the mother very lovingly in Isaiah 66:13 in “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.” She comforts her child in times of need, just as how God also comforts us with his everlasting love and presence as our refuge and strength, in unwavering support and solace and in times of joy and sorrow.

Proverbs 23:25 – “May your father and mother rejoice; may she who gave you birth be joyful!” Just as the mothers bless, she is in turn blessed. It is this bond that is forged in love and strengthened through shared experience and cherished memories.

Let us rejoice and celebrate that our mother has brought so much joy and happiness into our lives. Let us honour our mothers as the Bible says in Proverbs 31:30 – “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Let us see the beauty in the heart and love of mothers, in her compassion, and faith in their children.

True beauty lies not in outward appearances but in the character and heart of a woman who fears the Lord. A mother who walks in faith and reverence for God is worthy of praise and admiration. Her strength and grace inspire those around her and leave a lasting legacy of faith for generations to come. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

Psalm 127:3 – “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Children are a precious gift from God, entrusted to mothers to nurture, guide, and love. They are a testament to the beautiful creation and our miraculous life.

A mother’s love knows no bounds. It is patient, kind, and enduring. It is a love that sacrifices, forgives, and never fails. As we honour mothers on this special day, let us remember the incredible power of love to transform lives and bring hope to the world.

On this Mother’s Day, let us give thanks for the precious gift of mothers and the love they so freely give. May we cherish and honour them not only today but every day, recognising the profound impact they have on our lives and the world around us.
